August 11, 2008 – Where did summer go?  It’s cold here.  Sue made a small fire in the fireplace last night and we almost kicked on the furnace.  It was 54 when we went to bed.  This is not our typical August weather!  Lately we have had a small raccoon roaming around at night and a cat that I have seen several times.  I’ll bet the coyotes would like to “see” either one of them some night.  A very small fawn was killed on the highway just past our driveway.  The deer frequently cross the road there, where the creek and bordering cedar swamp run north and south.  There are easily a dozen deer hit by cars there every year.  It’s kind of a slow time of the year to see much wildlife.  We are seeing some turkeys along the road edges, usually hens and polts.
