August 17, 2009 – We almost had "Summer" for a week but then it started to rain - again.  This has been a really unusually cold and wet summer with very little of the warm days we expect.  The few days we had were really nice and much appreciated but I think for every day we had over 80 we have had days cold enough to kick on the furnace!  I haven't seen a lot of critters running around lately, just a few turkey hens and polts and a hawk or deer here and there.  Today Sue saw a man cutting horns off of a road killed deer about three miles from us.  There is a pair of sandhill cranes in a field near here too.  Last week I heard some coyotes at night and a couple of barred owls.
