A pair of black-capped chickadees is perched on the rim of a hand-made basket full of fall apples. But there is a bit more to the story than the obvious. My wife Susan has been a basket maker for over 22 years. She sells her baskets and also teaches basket weaving classes. I picked one of her basket to use for this painting and only as I was finishing this it did she ask me why I picked this particular basket. I did not know that this basket was one that she had made for my grandmother. After my grandmother’s passing, the basket came back to us. It makes the painting that much more special to me. My wife also has a group of basket making friends and they formed a local basket weaver’s guild. She refers to them as her basket buddies. It seems like a great title for this piece.
