| July 14, 2010 - Things have been a bit
slow around here. The summer foliage makes seeing a lot of the
wildlife much more difficult. This month I've had a coyote run
across the road in front of me and naturally a number of deer. A
six-point buck in the velvet ran across two lanes of traffic a few days
ago and I thought he was going to be road kill for sure. A pickup
hauling a large trailer never braked for him and he just barely made it
through two lanes of heavy traffic. The buck was going full speed
and probably doesn't know how lucky he was. July 15, 2010 - A bear showed up at the bird feeder just a few minutes ago, just before midnight. It appears to be the same small bear we saw earlier this spring. There is no feed out right now, came in, looked at me in the window (I was lit by the computer monitor light and the overhead studio light) and then walked towards the back door. I snuck out on the deck and watched it go behind the garage and then back to the feeder near me. I just had a shower and thought I smelled good, but I guess not to a bear. It came out of the dark toward the feeder and about 30 feet from me it suddenly turned and walked right back into the night. We had a raccoon killed on the highway the other night and it was really beginning to smell. It's gone now, so maybe the bear thought that was far more enticing. (That's all right by me.) |
