November 6, 2007 - Old Man Winter strolled through last night and we awoke to our first snowfall for this year. There was a heavy wet 3" of snow and more falling fast and hard with hard blowing winds. A cardinal was fighting for space at the feeder among the blue jays and chickadees. I found fresh buck scrapes in the woods and have heard them grunting in the woods as they search for does. A few geese always seem to dot the sky - except for today when the skies were ruled by a zillion white dots! November 8, 2007 - Another 1-2" of snow fell overnight and it was still snowing at six-thirty this morning. Every little twig has at least 1" of snow on it, so the forest looks like a dense maze of snowy branches and its very beautiful. The big feeder is more like a beehive this morning, with feathered "bees" buzzing all around. Two-thirds of the seed is gone due to the heavy feeding. |
