Welcome!

This is the pictorial studio tour!  I always think it is interesting to see an artist's studio and what his working environment is like.  The studio is usually a reflection of the artists work and those things that inspire him or her.  That's why I usually preface my slide shows and art workshops with pictures of my studio, both inside and out.  I am constantly adding "stuff" to my studio, so there are a lot of things to see if you come for a visit.  Stay as long as you want, keep out of the wet paint - hope you enjoy your visit!

This is the front of our home and studio.  The building is full log both inside and out in the house part and full log with tongue and groove pine on the partitions in the studio side.  The original house was built in 1939 and included a log garage.  At that time the road to the house was just a dirt road.  We doubled the size of the house in 1991 by adding on a studio, with a master bedroom and bath.  The newer addition starts just to the right of the pine tree you see in the center of the picture.  The basement under the new studio is a basket room for my wife, Susan.  She has a walkout that overlooks the creek.  The basket room is where she weaves her baskets, teaches classes on basket weaving, and sells basket supplies.  The studio sign above points the way down the curved sidewalk to both the studio and basket entrances.

Photo 1 - When you walk into the studio, this wall is on your immediate left.  This view is looking back toward the entrance which is just out of sight on the left.  Original paintings hang on this wall as it receives strong direct and indirect sunlight.  The cabinets hold literature & supplies.

Photo 2 - The wall in the preceding photo takes a left turn and this is where I display many of my framed prints, all for sale and for studio guests to view.  The door way leads to the bedroom and original house.  The top row of artwork is some of my winning stamp prints.

Photo 3 - To the right of the doorway in photo 2, in is this wall which has file cabinets for both my prints and my swipe files - or reference material photographs.  The bronze sculptures on the top of the cabinets are the work of my father, Lester Philip Lawrence.  They are hard to see in this photo, but trust me - they are beautiful! At the bottom is one of Sue's antler baskets.

Photo 4 - Directly behind you (from photo 3) is the open end of the studio.  This faces west and looks over the creek and cedar swamp.  I get to see a lot of wildlife out these windows.  I have drawing table on each side of this door that leads to the deck.  The door you came in is on the wall to the right of this photo and in the right corner of that wall.

Photo 5 - This is the corner of the studio to the left of photo 4.  My main working table is at right.

Photo 6 - Left, this is the corner of the studio to the right of photo 4.  The corner of my larger drawing table can just be seen and the old roll-top desk is where I do some of my paperwork.  The front entrance to the studio is just to the right of the roll-top desk.  Some of my prints and an original are displayed on the wall.  The small flat storage cabinet in the corner is for some of my small prints.

Photo 7 - Looking up from the creek area, toward the studio above and Susan's basket room below.

That's the tour and thanks for stopping in.  If you want a better look, stop by for a virtual reality visit.  You can take your chances and drop by, or if you want to be sure and catch me, call first for an appointment.  My hours are listed below (and I'm afraid there is more truth to them than I would like to admit!

OPEN most days about 9 or 10.  Occasionally as early as 7, but some days as late as 12 or 1.  We close about 5:30 or 6, occasionally about 4 or 5, but sometimes as late as 11 or 12.  Some days or afternoons, we aren't here at all, and lately I've been here just about all the time, except when I'm someplace else, but I should be here then, too.
