I was very fortunate to win both the 1995 Michigan duck Stamp design contest and the 1995 Michigan Trout Stamp contest. It was an unprecedented double win. No one before, or since , has ever won both contests for the same year. The trout stamp contest has now been dropped by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, so this double win will never happen again. Because of the dispersal of certain numbered prints to collectors and galleries, only about 100 prints were available as Matched Numbered sets of these two stamp images. There are still some of these special matched sets available! When I was exploring different ideas for framing these prints, I noticed that when the duck stamp print was mounted in the same frame over the trout stamp print, the fallen tree in the two images appeared to merge - as if you were seeing an above water and below water view. The addition of remarques (with the duck remarque center on the bottom of the print margin and the trout remarque centered on the top of the trout print margin) this really put the two trees in line to enhance this effect. It is my favorite way to present these two images from this unique combination. This works well with both color and pencil re marques. |
