My wife is an accomplished basket weaver, one of her friends, and fellow member of their local “Woodland Weavers” guild started the basket shown in this painting. A clothespin is clipped to the top of the unfinished basket and the remaining cane has sprung out into loops and bit of a mess. Rosie (the cat) is sprawled out in the warm shaft of sunlight and a Painted Lady (the butterfly) has landed in the warmth of the light and the tangle of the basket. Not only is the basket unfinished, but it appears that Rosie and the painted lady have some unfinished business of their own. We know about the curiosity of cats and this situation has all the ingredients to make a tangled mess involving all three! |
